A Rationale for the Governance Structure for Richfield United Methodist Church

As we grow in ministry, we seek to:

  1. deliver maximum amounts of mission and ministry
  2. enlarge the percentage of members/attendees enthusiastically participating in ministries
  3. hold conflict to minimum levels
  4. enhance the spirit of participatory democracy
  5. encourage the free flow of new ideas and creativity
  6. protect against the two primary kinds of dysfunctional leadership:  (a) over-controlling, micromanagement by pastors and/or lay leaders; and (b) laissez faire management by passive pastors and/or lay leaders.

In order to achieve the above, Richfield United Methodist Church will equip, empower and send disciples of Jesus Christ through ministry areas consisting of:
An Administrative Board: This group is the overall policy setting body.  It meets four times a year.
Members are (at least):  Ad Board Chair, Secretary, Spiritual Growth Chair, Lay Leaders, Lay Member to Annual Conference, SPRC Chair, Finance Chair, Trustees Chair, UMW President, Worship Chair, and the Pastor(s).
A Council on Ministries: One month prior to the Administrative Board Meeting, all committee chairs and ministry area representatives gather to:  calendar, communicate, coordinate, and vision.
