We are The United Methodist Church.

“The Gospel of Christ knows of no religion, but social; no holiness but social holiness. Faith working by love is the length and breadth and depth and height of Christian perfection.”
– Rev. John Wesley
Founder of the Methodist movement

The United Methodist Church is 12.9 million members worldwide in 65+ countries across 5 continents. Right here in Minnesota, 295 UM churches we are coming together to deepen our love of God, ourselves, and our neighbor.

The United Methodist Church is often called “a big tent church.” You’ll find people of all ages, nations, races, political parties, genders, and sexual identity who worship, pray, and serve side by side together. It’s the same way here at Richfield UMC. We come from all walks of life, converging as the church to care for each other and do God’s work on many social issues because we know we can do more good together than on our own.

All of us seek something to give us new meaning in life. You are welcome here. Let us journey together as you take your next faithful steps.

United Methodists care about social justice.

The General Board of Church & Society is the social justice arm of The United Methodist Church. Their headquarters is in the seat of power: go to Capitol Hill and you’ll find the United Methodist Building across the street from the Supreme Court, the Senate offices, and the US Capitol!

Sign up for one of their many email lists. Pick the topic(s) that matter to you: clean water, criminal justice, fighting poverty, accessible health care, LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive health, voting rights, and more.

The Church & Society Team of Richfield UMC organizes our outreach efforts. From donation drives to relief kit assembly. From feeding the hungry to writing postcards and making calls advocating for fair housing. We believe in social holiness. You can join the call to help our neighbor.

United Methodists love to grow as disciples of Jesus.

The United Methodist Publishing House pours out new books, Bible studies, hymns and songs, and more ways for you to express your faith in God. They publish the popular Upper Room daily devotional and proudly co-sponsored the development of the Common English Bible.

Cokesbury bookstore is one of the best places to find great books by both United Methodist authors and writers who focus on the expansive love of God and the power of an inclusive mindset regarding humankind.

Richfield UMC hosts book studies, has Upper Room copies avaialable, sings many diverse songs, watches videos on Amplify Media in Bible Studies, uses great curriculum for children and youth ministries, and has lots of faith books in the Library. You can go deeper as a disciple of Jesus.

United Methodist stand against racism.

The General Commission on Religion and Race helps churches and individuals stand against racism at the systemic and personal levels. Through education, action, and advocacy, their work is making both the UMC and the world a better place for God’s great diversity of people.

They have an entire library of online resources about cross-racial/cross-cultural community settings, acknowledging and working through white privilege, and embracing immigrants.

Richfield UMC knows God designs by diversity. Members are of many backgrounds, we work with refugee resettlement, and we state our land acknowledgment at the beginning of every worship service. Overcoming racism takes time and energy. Let us learn, pray, and grow in love.

United Methodist go deeper in our faith.

Discipleship Ministries of The United Methodist Church resources church communities and individuals with practical ideas on going deeper in your faith. From ideas on spiritual practices to the Social Principles that articulate our stand on the issues, there’s something for you.
